The most common suggestion to reinforce a door frame is to use three 
inch screws that can reach into the jack stud. When you insert a three 
screw it does feel like it adds more strength to the jamb. But this is 
only because there has not been enough time for the chemical reactions  
with the metal screws and wooden stud. Over time the grip of the screw 
into the wood will weaken. What is never show or seen is actually where 
the screws are going into the stud. When you add thickness of the sheet 
rock the screws will only catch the edge of the soft pine wall stud  and
 like the jamb this wood will easily split and break. This photo is a 
good example of what is really taking place with the screws and the 
stud. As the door opens and closes the connection with the stuc and 
screws will loosen.  Better that nothing yes but it is not a serious
